As we recollect our memories whether good or bad we imagine the thoughts that were associated with that particular memory. These thoughts that are triggered by our imagination evoke certain emotions in us, that could be either positive or negative. Positive emotions influence us by making us feel resourceful which further motivates us to take actions. On the other hand negative emotions evoke unresourceful states that further pulls us down, putting us in an unproductive state. That’s the power of imagination.
We are faced with challenges in life, our imagination is what perceives these challenges to be larger than life. If we imagine the challenges to be huge, our mind creates a mental block that stops us from taking further action on the challenge. Whereas if we imagine the challenge to be a part of our life and perceive it to help us grow further, our mind looks for solutions that further enhances our creativity and problem solving skills. Innovation is a result of creativity and imagination.
As kids we all have engaged in pretend play, which is nothing but a product of our imagination. We might have listened to stories or incidents from our parents, grandparents, friends, colleagues, etc. As we listened to these stories, our brain starts imagining those characters in the incident and creates a mental map of the whole incident as well as the characters in the incident. Imagining about our favourite food causes us to salivate. Our brain does not understand the difference between imagination and reality. Hence, it perceives the mental map created due to the imagination to be real. This acts as a filter for the future incidents that may be similar in nature.
Our perception of the world is influenced by our imagination. Hence, it is apt to conclude that Imagination Encircles the World.
